About

Archer House

Archer House, a 7,519-square-foot family residence in Bal Harbour, Florida, draws its interiors from a calm, coastal palette of pale oak, white Calacatta-style marble, soft plaster tones and brushed brass accents. Graceful arches recur throughout the home, softening its architecture and framing doorways, niches and built-ins. Marble and brass bring polish; pale oak and woven cane keep it relaxed enough for everyday life by the sea.

The dining room sets a serene tone. A long, dark wood table on sculptural crossed legs is surrounded by black-framed chairs with woven cane backs, adding natural texture and contrast against the pale oak floors. Three smoked-glass pendants hang in a row above, their faceted forms glowing softly. A recessed wall niche frames a large coastal canvas of turquoise water and white sand, set above a low oak credenza with brass hardware, while oak-cased openings lead to adjoining spaces.

The kitchen is bright and open, centered on a generous island topped in veined white marble with soft cream cabinetry and an open oak shelf at one end. Three black-and-white globe pendants mark the island, and behind it, a wall of warm oak cabinetry houses a trio of stainless wall ovens with an open display shelf above. Glass doors and wood-framed openings connect the kitchen to a casual dining area and the garden beyond, keeping the space airy and connected.

In the living room, a full-height oak built-in becomes the focal point. Its central arch is lined with finely fluted tile and fitted with floating marble shelves above a marble-topped bar cabinet, flanked by open shelving for books, objects and bottles. Ivory sofas and curved lounge chairs sit on a textured rug around a marble block table and a round wood cocktail table, while an arched steel-framed door opens to the landscape.

The primary bathroom is wrapped in bookmatched marble slabs. A frameless glass shower features a floating marble bench, a brass rain head and a lit niche, while a freestanding soaking tub with a brass floor-mounted filler sits beneath black-framed windows overlooking greenery. Arched niches, one set into fluted tile, display towels and accessories on marble shelves. Opposite, a floating oak vanity with a marble top, brass fixtures and a slender sconce sits beside an arched oak door.

The arch is the thread. It frames the living room bar, the bathroom niches and the doors to the garden, giving a Bal Harbour family home a quiet, classical rhythm from room to room.
