On a 13,890-square-foot site in Miami Shores Village, the 9215 Residence works against the usual instinct for waterfront architecture. With 6,507 square feet of program on that footprint, height was never optional — and SDH Studio turned that constraint into the design’s defining move rather than something to work around, organizing three stories around shifting horizontal bands and volumetric cutouts that read differently depending on where you stand.
A Staircase Suspended in Stone
The entry stair cantilevers past a glass balustrade with no visible support, floating beneath a planted rooftop edge and a run of vertical wood screening. A deep bronze overhang holds it in shadow, while native plantings and a single recessed tree mark the threshold below.
Two Materials, One Language
Cast stone and vertical wood fins alternate down the facade — stone carrying the load-bearing volumes, wood softening the screens above the carport. A green roof edge threads planting through the level below, while a stepping-stone path and driveway paving let the ground read as landscape.
