About

Color

The Color Residence takes its name from the way SDH Studio used bold hue as architecture in this 7,252-square-foot house in Golden Beach, Florida. Against a calm backdrop of white walls, pale stone floors and warm wood ceilings, the interiors introduce saturated planes of sunflower yellow, cobalt blue and magenta at chosen moments. Each splash of color marks a destination, guides movement through the home and gives the open plan its personality.

The experience begins along a long double-height gallery. A charcoal plaster wall anchors one side, displaying a large yellow-and-teal grid artwork above a block of coral stone set on black pebbles, while a vivid yellow entry door glows at the far end of the axis. Overhead, a warm wood soffit runs the length of the space, drawing the eye toward the living areas.

The living room is two stories tall, with clerestory windows and full-height glass opening to the garden and pool. A soft lavender sectional with magenta cushions sits beside sculptural wood shell lounge chairs, grounded by an abstract blue and rust rug. Nearby, the dining area pairs a long table with molded plywood chairs against a wood-paneled wall of display niches.

The staircase reads as sculpture. Solid wood treads rest on a white folded-steel stringer, edged by a cable railing with a wood handrail. A warm timber wall with floating shelves rises alongside it, and a playful net hammock slung beneath the stair turns leftover space into a favorite retreat.

The kitchen delivers the home’s boldest gesture: a suspended yellow ceiling panel conceals the range hood above a dark island, while a cobalt blue shelving niche punctuates the white lacquer cabinetry. A live-edge wood slab forms the breakfast bar, paired with navy perforated stools, and wood upper cabinets soften the crisp white surfaces.

Smaller spaces receive equal care. The powder room combines a textured stone wall, a floating dark wood shelf and a white cube vessel sink, finished with a bright botanical artwork. A quiet sitting nook pairs a cream sofa and indigo cushions with lit display niches and a cocoon floor lamp. Upstairs, a wood-clad bridge with a skylight overlooks the living room below.

In the primary bath, a floating white double vanity stands before glazing that frames a private garden, with mirrors suspended in front of the view. A wood-clad soaking tub rests on smooth stones beneath a skylight. The rule is simple: white, stone and wood everywhere, and color only where it earns its place. The result is playful without ever being loud.
