Luma Residence

At 11,659 square feet, the Luma Residence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is an exercise in restraint. SDH Studio shaped interiors around a calm palette of ivory, sand and natural oak, punctuated by boldly veined marble and crisp black accents. Expansive steel-framed windows pour daylight into every room and frame views of the lawn and pool beyond, giving the home a calm, unhurried quality.

Everything gathers in the double-height living room. A towering wall of rift oak paneling, outlined with slim reveals, rises above a fireplace wrapped in dramatic white marble with dark, sweeping veins. Built-in oak shelving flanks the hearth with sculptural ceramics and books, while an abstract canvas in soft white and ivory hangs above. Opposite, a two-story grid of black-framed glass softened by sheer floor-to-ceiling drapery opens the room to the garden. A generous ivory sectional, paired with bouclé lounge chairs on chunky oak frames, gathers around a weathered wood coffee table. A slender charcoal console and a sculptural metal side table read graphically against the pale stone floor.

The kitchen is entered through a broad, oak-clad arch that frames the space like a picture. Exposed timber beams cross a bright white ceiling, and warm oak cabinetry with integrated appliances lines the walls. A waterfall island in veined quartzite, lined with slim black stools, stands beneath a trio of black and white globe pendants. The same stone continues up the backsplash and wraps a sculpted range hood, flanked by black steel-framed glass cabinets. A recessed open-shelf niche serves as a coffee bar, and a cushioned window seat with built-in shelving offers a quiet place to linger.

The primary bedroom is a soft, cocooning retreat. Classic picture-frame wall moldings in warm cream set a tailored backdrop for an upholstered platform bed, flanked by fluted oak nightstands and glowing alabaster sconces. Twin linen ottomans sit at the end of the bed on a textured, hand-loomed rug, while a pair of chocolate-brown lounge chairs with an ottoman forms a reading corner beside glass doors to the balcony. Herringbone oak runs underfoot.

Across the room, the media wall continues the paneled detailing, with the television framed within the moldings and a softly backlit reveal casting a gentle glow. Below, a floating plinth in the same striking black-and-white marble seen in the living room ties the home together.

The bones are classical, with picture-frame moldings, an oak arch and timber beams. Ivory upholstery, black steel and veined marble keep it from ever feeling period.
