While architectural forms make a beautiful statement, we believe it’s the design of a home’s interior that creates the experience. We love both, in the same way we love tones and textures, materials and fabrics, curves and geometry, and balance and proportion.
Our interior designers partner with clients to co-create truly distinctive and highly personalized residential experiences. We draw on our client’s passions, our team’s craftsmanship, as well as the experience of local artisans and the world’s most prestigious brands to make sure your home is crafted to express your tastes and personal style.

Our Interior Design Process
While no two projects are ever the same, our interior designers and project managers follow a tried and trusted methodology which ensures our projects always meet – even exceed – our client’s goals. Each phase is highly collaborative with clients, designers and any specialist consultants engaged in a series of discussions to determine the optimum outcome for your desired home.
1
PROGRAMMING
Key activities: (1) initial client meetings, (2) review of client requirements, (3) personal preferences, (4) reference images and (5) project sequencing.
During this initial phase, SDH’s interior designers meet with clients to ascertain details of their lifestyle and requirements and the aesthetic goals they’re seeking to achieve which help establish the design direction for the project.
They undertake a thorough review of the project site, the architectural design, and the building plans before starting to develop themes, ideas and concepts for client presentation. This phase also includes initial correspondence with contractors to review the proposed interior design program and discuss construction scheduling and logistics.
2
CONCEPT DESIGN
Key activities: (1) conceptual drawings, (2) preliminary floor plans, (3) furniture layout, (4) conceptual narratives, and (5) storyboards for each social and private space.
The concept design phase is focused on the actual interior design and material choices. Based on the information gathered during the programming phase, the design team will draft the interior detailing and provide conceptual drawings for client consideration and approval. We collaborate closely throughout the early design phases to identify beautiful materials and finishes, floor coverings, wall finishes and colors, and present them to you for consideration.
3
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: SOCIAL AREAS
Key activities: (1) preliminary drawings for the design of social areas (living and dining rooms, kitchen, entrance foyer, and outdoor terrace), (2) full set of drawings for social areas for client presentation and approval.
The design development phase starts with a concentration on social spaces. The interior design team creates and drafts a furniture plan for approval, selects and/or custom designs furniture pieces, finalizes paint colors, wall coverings and specialty wall finishes and creates custom faux finish treatments that might be incorporated into the ceiling and wall features. Decorative lighting fixtures will be selected as will flooring materials that coordinate best with existing flooring, and carpeting for the bedrooms, as well as design and/or select area rugs.
4
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: PRIVATE AREAS
Key activities: (1) preliminary drawings for the design of private areas (master and secondary bedrooms, private offices, bathrooms and laundry space); (2) complete set of Interior Design drawings for private and social areas with furniture layouts; (3) full design specification presentation ready for client approval.
Design development continues with a focus on the private spaces within the home. The interior design team continues developing the furniture plan for client approval, and selects and/or custom designs furniture pieces for the bedrooms, offices and bathrooms. We also design and specify window and privacy treatments, bedding, decorative pillows and embellishments, and select accessories such as artwork, lamps, silk arrangements, plants, and other items for placement throughout the home.
5
PROJECT ADMINISTRATION
Key activities: (1) management of purchasing and ordering processes, (2) account management, (3) organizing storage and deliveries, (4) site visits, and (5) contractor coordination meetings.
Project Administration describes the product purchasing and order management phase of your project. It involves a series of activities that ensure the efficient sourcing, selection, procurement, and delivery of your furnishings, materials, and decorative items.
Based on the approved design and your preferences, key considerations for interior designers include order specifications, delivery dates, and payment terms, maintaining quality controls, coordinating temporary storage, and ensuring records of purchases, expenses, and deliveries are maintained for accounting and project management purposes.
6
FURNISHING & STAGING
Key activities: (1) shopping for accessories, (2) moving and receiving furniture, (3) contractor coordination meetings, and (4) staging.
When the design has been finalized and approved, and all of the furnishings and materials specified and ordered, the process moves to the final phase. During this phase, the designer will administer all aspects of design installation, including the coordination of the contractors, periodic visits to the job site to ensure work is proceeding in accordance with the design plans and documents, and meetings with the client, builder, and subcontractors as necessary. As work by the contractor progresses and materials arrive, the designer will actively supervise all aspects of the design installation.
An Artisanal Approach to Interior Design in Miami
We believe there is an art to designing a beautiful, high-functioning home. For us, it is a unique expression of human creative skill and imagination which requires knowledge, expertise, and an extraordinary level of attention to detail.
The success of our interior designers is not a function of simply knowing all about the hottest colors, fabrics, finishes, furnishings, and accessories. Instead, success is predicated on their ability to recognize, understand, and appreciate the unique ways in which people live and work in the spaces they enjoy every day.
From the first meeting, SDH’s interior designers are intent on learning what is valuable and important to each client.
Our knowledge and experience has taught us that each client has a particular point of view, and that point of view supersedes any of the trends in current-day. Instead of copying or following a trend, SDH’s interior designers co-create a unique design style with each client, with their tastes and aesthetic goals as the key point of departure. This client-focused approach to design, combined with our interior designers’ skills in communicating clearly and effectively with clients, architects, materials suppliers, and craftsman, ensures that every design is executed to perfection.
