On the street side, the house is quietly composed rather than displayed. A deep flat roof, its underside lined in timber, caps the top floor like a brim. Below it, screens of slender vertical louvers run across the glazing, filtering the sun and veiling the bedrooms without closing them off. Dark stone panels anchor the middle floor. At grade, two covered carports sit to either side of a broad stair whose pale stone treads appear to float, climbing past a grey-veined stone wall and a quiet water feature to the front door. Arrival becomes a slow ascent through tropical planting.
Inside, the main level opens as a single continuous field of light oak. A foyer lined in fluted timber, with flush doors that disappear into the paneling, gives way to the living room, where a freestanding oak-clad volume holds a double-sided linear fireplace set in a stone base. The volume divides living and family rooms without walling either in. The kitchen extends the same palette: floor-to-ceiling oak millwork, a monolithic marble island, and slatted timber screens that conceal the wine storage. Over the dining table, copper-toned pendants loop through the air like lines in a sketch. Sheer curtains soften the full-height glass throughout, so daylight arrives diffused.
The rear elevation turns the whole composition toward the canal. Board-formed concrete ceilings carry the eye out across a sun deck and an infinity pool whose edge spills into a water wall of green mosaic tile, dropping a full story to the lawn below. A timber-roofed cabana frames one end of the deck, and on the top floor a trellis set into the roofline casts moving bands of shadow across the terrace. Large sliding glass walls retract completely, so from the water the main floor reads as an open pavilion. A floating dock completes the sequence: street, stair, pool, canal.
The result is a house that holds privacy and openness in equal measure. It is guarded at the street, open to the water, and built from a small, disciplined set of materials that grows richer the closer you look.
